“Pushes his face into the night”
Breakaway is a song about unrequited love and a man who spends his night trolling on the internet. As is often the case, I came up with the chords and melody a good year before the lyrics.
This recording is very heavy on the electric guitars and I tried to make it sound as sinister as possible. I’ll let you be the judge of that.
I have never made a promo video for Breakaway but we’ve played it quite a few times on More Music Monday.

Breakaway
Pushes his face into the night
His mind’s dancing with regret
About the girl he never knew
And a life he never led
And if he wanted to
She could take him through
Show him all the things he dream
When he wanted more
He could lock the door
Just one click and she’d be there
Eyes shut he tries to sleep
But rest is never his
The thoughts they cut too deep
Who’d have thought it would come to this
And they’ll breakaway
And be gone
And they’ll breakaway
And be gone

Hard Working Man – Bonus track.
“Two minutes 30 seconds of 60’s pop perfection”
The final bonus track on the LP is the very first song I wrote that got committed to tape. I wrote the tune to Hard Working Man when I was 15 years old. The lyrics are a bit cheesy but it turned out as a great tribute to the 60’s, a bit like a mix of the old soul hits and the Beatles. This recording was made in the late 1980’s on my 8 track reel 2 reel.
